Zombie Game News: Robert Kirkman Talks About The Walking Dead Video Game

Telltale today released the third episode of Playing Dead at the official website for their game, The Walking Dead. Playing Dead is Telltale’s talk-show format developer diary designed to let gamers know what they can expect from the upcoming game based on Robert Kirkman’s award-winning comic books.

In this episode of Playing Dead, host AJ LoCascio is joined by very special guest Robert Kirkman, the Eisner Award-winning creator/writer of The Walking Dead. Kirkman, who runs his own Skybound imprint at Image Comics, where he's a partner, talks about why the game isn’t based on Rick Grimes, why it’s not an open-world shooter, why player choice and decision-making is a big deal and why he chose Telltale to make a game based on The Walking Dead. The episode also features the very first extended look at the game’s adventure horror gameplay.

In addition to Playing Dead Episode 3, Telltale has also posted the second of a series of video format Q&A sessions on the game's official website (answers come from Lead Designer Sean Vanaman and Designer Harrison Pink). Zombie Game News: New Trailer For The Walking Dead Game

Created by animator and director Daniel M. Kanemoto, the trailer blends 2D and 3D imagery in stunning fashion as homage to the art of the original comic book world on which Telltale’s game is based. Kanemoto was asked by Telltale to create the trailer because of a “fan made" Walking Dead title sequence he had made, which can be seen at the Exmortis Films website.

The first of five monthly episodes of The Walking Dead is set for release in late April on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360® for 400 Microsoft® Points, on PlayStation®Network for $4.99 and on PC and Mac as a season pass for $24.99 from the Telltale Online Store and other digital outlets. Information on additional formats will follow.

Telltale has also revealed details of a limited time pre-order offer available via their online store. Pre-order customers will get the chance to join the cast of the game in episode four, where they will be modeled as a human survivor before being killed and then returned to life as a ravenous zombie. Pre-ordering also qualifies customers for a 10% discount (get the 5 episode season for $22.49; normally $24.99).

“This trailer really shows off how our artists have managed to take the 2D art style of the comic books and create a 3D world allowing fans to truly interact with Robert Kirkman’s world for the very first time,” said Dan Connors, Telltale co-founder and CEO. “We hope that fans will like what they see and be excited by the chance to join the cast of the game; we promise they’ll die horribly!”

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third-person team-based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe. Not only does this setting provide a rich backdrop to the action, but it also delivers a unique and brutal triple-threat battle. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) add to the mix as players compete against their team’s opposing squad and tackle this third, unpredictable element that could only exist in the twisted Resident Evil universe. The result is a brand new style of gameplay that breaks the conventions of traditional third-person shooters.

It is September 1998, and the action centers on the ill-fated Raccoon City. When the Umbrella Corporation learns that one of its top scientists, Dr. William Birkin, plans to sell the experimental G-Virus to the US Government, they order an elite team of Umbrella Security Service (U.S.S.) soldiers led by Hunk into their secret research facility to secure the only known sample of the virus. The operation takes a turn for the worse when Dr. Birkin injects himself with the last vial, mutating into a deadly creature, G-Birkin, and overpowering the team. During the battle the deadly ‘T-virus’ is leaked into the sewers and spread through Raccoon City, infecting the entire population.

Hearing of the outbreak, the USS team is given fresh orders to destroy all evidence of Umbrella’s involvement and silence anyone that might discover the truth. The Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (U.B.C.S.) is also deployed to help contain the situation. Meanwhile the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of special operatives to determine the source of the mysterious outbreak. Caught up in the chaos are rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Soldier (U.S.S) and battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City. Choose from six characters, each one equipped with a unique skill set, including the female field scientist Four-Eyes, who can manipulate the T-virus and take control of the B.O.W’s raiding the streets of Raccoon City, or the weapons expert and U.S.S team captain Lupo.
